LocalRES Final Event: Renewable Energy Communities Leading the Decarbonisation Journey

The LocalRES project is coming to an end!

To celebrate its achievements and insights, the Final Event will take place in Brussels, on the 21st and 22nd of April 2026. It will be a key moment to reflect and discuss the future of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) in Europe.

Over the past years, LocalRES has supported the development of innovative and inclusive REC models across Europe, strengthening cooperation between municipalities, citizens and local stakeholders. Through its demonstration sites, the project has tested concrete governance structures, business models and technical solutions adapted to different territorial contexts. The structured exchange of good practices between these pilots has been central to the project, showing how peer learning and collaboration can accelerate the replication of successful community energy models.

The two-day Final Event will gather project partners, policymakers, local authorities and practitioners. The first day, open to the project partners, will focus on presenting key results and lessons learned from the pilot sites, as well as discussing enabling policy and governance frameworks.

The second day, open to a wider audience, will feature interactive sessions and practical exchanges for municipalities, energy cooperatives and citizens interested in launching or strengthening Renewable Energy Communities. Participants will explore concrete pathways for implementation and adaptation to their local contexts.

Beyond celebrating the project’s results, the event aims to reinforce a growing European community of practice, ensuring that Renewable Energy Communities continue to play a strong role in the decarbonisation of Europe’s energy systems.
