BRIDGE is a European Commission initiative which unites Horizon 2020 Smart Grid, Energy Storage, Islands, and Digitalisation Projects to create a structured view of cross-cutting issues which are encountered in the demonstration projects and may constitute an obstacle to innovation.

The BRIDGE process fosters continuous knowledge sharing amongst projects thus allowing them to deliver conclusions and recommendations about the future exploitation of the project results, with a single voice.

AURORAL focuses on increasing connectivity and delivering a digital environment of smart objects interoperable services platforms able to trigger dynamic rural ecosystems of innovation chains, applications and services.

Thus, AURORAL contributes to increase economic growth and create jobs in rural areas and to tackle significant societal challenges, contributes to overcoming digital divide between rural and urban areas and to develop the potential offered by increased connectivity and digitisation of rural areas.

AURORAL digital environment is demonstrated by cost-efficient and flexible cross-domain applications through large-scale pilots in five European regions.

It builds on an open, API-based, interoperable and federated Internet of Things (IoT) architecture and includes a reference implementation supporting flexible integration of heterogeneous services, bridging the interoperability gap of the smart object platforms and creating markets for services in rural areas.

REScoop MECISE project mobilises citizens and municipalities in the transition to a more sustainable and decentralised energy system.

With support from the EASME, a consortium of established energy cooperatives develops projects for renewable energy and energy efficiency. We team up with municipalities and seek opportunities to set-up a financial facilitation service for citizens energy communities across Europe.

COME RES is a Horizon 2020 project that aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the electricity sector. It focuses on facilitating the development and supporting the implementation of enabling frameworks for renewable energy communities (RECs).

This is achieved by learning from regions with advanced community energy development and supporting regions with the potential to further develop energy communities.

COME RES covers a variety of socio-technical solutions including community PV, wind, storage, hydro power and integrated solutions.

The Interreg cVPP project seeks to empower prosumers and energy communities by developing and testing the socio-technical concept of a community-based Virtual Power Plant (cVPP*).

The project developed a cVPP in 3 communities in Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium, a Mobilisation and Replication (MoRe) model to help 9 other communities developing their own cVPPs, and is currently supporting the upscaling of the cVPPs to increase their societal impact.

*A cVPP facilitates local energy communities monitoring their energy flows and aggregating distributed generation and flexibility through an Energy Management System (EMS). Being organized by the community and driven by their needs, a cVPP works for citizens: it enables them to manage energy demand and supply within their community and to trade on markets. cVPP can also help the system by solving grid problems.

SCCALE 203050 project intends to bring Europe closer to its citizens by fostering the creation of energy communities, taking full advantage of the favorable EU legal framework on citizen energy.

The project aims to build at least 26 energy communities, trigger the creation of 34 community projects, and develop a comprehensive methodology for the creation of energy communities that can be replicated in Europe and beyond. The methodology will be tested and validated in 5 pilot communities.
